A Couse on Direct Digital Controllers (DDC)
DDC’s are typically used in buildings to control HVAC and Lighting Systems. They are similar to PLC’s but require less processing power and use a different programming language such as Basic or Niagara.
The Building Automation System (BAS) market was valued at USD 53.66 Billion in 2016 and is expected to reach USD 99.11 Billion by 2022 and the number of skilled people required to work in this industry is expected to increase by more than 30%. But market analysts predict that the demand for a skilled labour force to fill these positions will not keep up with the rapid rate of construction for buildings that use a modern day BAS.
If you are a Process or Industrial Technician/Engineer, Electrician or HVAC Contractor this one day practical course will provide you with enough information to pursue further studies that can leverage your current skills and knowledge so you can explore new opportunities in the Building Automation System field.
This hands-on course will be hosted by the ISA Toronto Section and taught in the Building Automation Lab at George Brown College, Casa Loma Campus from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Topics covered include:
- An overview of the Building Automation System
- Instrumentation used with DDC systems
- Controller Hardware (Analog PID, Reliable Controls, EasyIO)
- Controller Software (SCADA/HMI, Basic, Sedona)
- Network and Remote Connectivity
The practical portion of the workshop will allow the attendee to control a real process using 3 different types of control systems and their respective programming languages. An introduction to Niagara will be given using the Sedona programming platform along with a few tips on what you need in order to learn this at your own pace.
